International Man of Mystery

Our man Johnny is away again on his adventures. Although a professional BOTM, he is currently working undercover in Japan posing as a leading international physicist.

Those Japanese girls better watch out, especially if they speak Swedish and were born in Finland. As usual agent Johnny is
kitted out with the latest in surveillance tools which means he can take as many pictures as he wants, but as we can see from this example, (and there are many like it) he needs advice as to what to take pictures of. Please could you offer suggestions on this website of useful things for Johnny to photograph?

A Japanese girl writes
Hej Johnny! I am Swedish speaking Japanese girl who was born in Finland. My parents were diplomats and would be very gratified to meet an international man of mystery. Please could you take my picture?

I must take my chance and gratulate you JS, I believe the last comment, for once, was sent from a real girl!

JS
Dear Linus, what do you base your judgement on? My sixth sense tells me that the first comment was written by a British man named either Dan or Stephen. Apart from that, I would like to add that there is hardly a word of truth in this peculiar article.

My judgement was based on the second comedian rule: Stephen and Dan already have overused that joke. And the second comedian rule tells never to tell the same joke twice.

Anyway, I would like to see more photos of screens that display actual simulation in progress. But pictures of food are never wrong either.

Please stop calling me a joke. Being in love with JS is not funny. It is almost painful at times. But it is my path in life.

Real Japanese Girl
Hey, who are the jokers here? I am not in love with JS, but I would like my photo taken. By a way, what is a BOTM? Sounds interesting:)

Which airline were you on, JS?

I am worried that you left your apple juice in your coffee cup.

BASIC friend
Johnny, why are you reading about particle motion (it is 2.1 in your document) when you should have been relaxing?

I see your neighbor did not make the same mistake and I hope you learned from them in time!!!!

Johnny, you have surpassed yourself with these photos.
Very impressed with the photos of you on the bike -- must have been a rush on the self-timer.

Hello Japanese girl
I may have taken your picture already as I have quite a few. But I am happy to take more. Yours Johnny

There really is a lot of totally untrue statements here. I know that it will make no difference but I must try and make some clarification. First A BOTM is a Bachelor Of The Millenium. I am one of very few in the world history to hold that position in two milleniums. Second, I did NOT have my arm round my neighbour for the whole flight. For instance I often got up to take photographs or exercise and this required moving my arms and hands. Third, I did talk to the man with the beard when I borrowed his article on particles

From an angry air hostess
Hey, JS's neighbor.
Count yourself lucky.
He ate my beard.
T
The real JS
To all my friends in Finland, once again I must write to explain that there is no truth in these messages and that friends from Oxford are making it all up.
For example, I did not eat all of the beard of the air hostess.

In a sense, it is quite amusing to see how an article about me quite rapidly, as if by some magic, fills up with totally meaningless junk messages. What makes it especially amusing is to know that it is only one person who generates or at most two persons who generate all this rubbish. But so they say that 90 or so percent of the spam on the Internet is sent out by only 200 professional spammers and analogously it is probably true that about 90 percent of the spam on this website is generated by a single individual. An interesting observation is that the fine details of the spam comments here vary slightly each time, which suggests that the spammer has a rich sense of fantasy and spends a considerable amount of time on writing his messages. In other words, the comments speak about
real devotion. On the other hand, the over-riding theme is the same from message to message, from article to article and year after year, which again strongly suggests that the spammer lacks basic creativity and nventiveness. What do other people think?

To all the JSes out there
Who on earth was that last JS? What on earth were you writing about Of all the totally untrue comments out there that has got to be the worst. Could we please get back to the really important issues. These are number 1. beards and number 2. photographs. I think Dan would have hoped for more suggestions. Also would that lucky young girl who went to Japan with Johnny's arm like to step forward?

Given the kind of output that my dear spammers fill this website with, I wonder how on Earth they have managed to persuade somebody to publish
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/025321520X/qid=1094811229/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-4296060-9568959?v=glance&s=books"> this book </a> and <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0820325287/qid=1094811724/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-4296060-9568959?v=glance&s=books"> this book </a>. What is even more surprising is that Stephen's book is said to have won some prestigious award in the States. What do people think? Having read the comments accompanying this and other articles, I would at least think twice before ordering these items from Amazon. But maybe mickelsson.net would be interested to order some copies for evaluation purposes?
A
Amazon
Good idea "JS."
I think you should order a lot of copies.
Will the real JS come back though. We've had more than enough spam from false JSs trying to sell books online. This is a discussion forum, not ebay.

We have followed this discussion with interest and would like to contact the two JSes who have written books. We are interested in developing a 'Johnny series'. 'Beyond Johnny' traces the a young phycisists intellecual and emotional development until he realises he is a being beyond himself - although tragically colonised by a number of other people with Johnny identities. 'Fortress Johnny' is a love story about a man with a definite air of strength tempered by underlying vulnerability, until he realises that many women find an aura of vulnerability tempered by underlying strength more attractive. We are also thinking of a finnish-English phrasebook called 'That Finnish Johnny' with helpful phrases translated such as 'How do you ski to London from here' and 'Tahnk you for inviting me to dinner at your home. HOw much can I pay you for it?'

a younf swidish girl comes forward
Hello everyone my name is Ulrika and I had the pleasure of being escorted by Johnny all the way to Japan. He is very gallant and stayed by my side for the entire journey except for a short break when there was a romantic fim on which he though it best not to watch. A lovely boy

Dan
Dear all,

I thought I would break my long radio silence to say how much I have enjoyed all these contributions and many thanks to Linus and you all for taking this idea up. We have not had many photograph suggestions but it is still proving worth it. I never knew there were so many JSes. The rel one of course will be JS@hotmail.com which must be the ultimate test of authenticity.
J
JS
I think the lack of suggestions for what to photograph means that people are pretty happy with the current photographs and eagerly wait for the next set to appear. It would actually be quite strange if it was not so, because I very deliberately photographed only the most interesting things I could find.
T
The People
We are indeed eager, JS, for more exciting photographs.
T
The real JS
I am getting sick and tired of people writing in pretending to be me. It is getting past a joke and can be upsetting. PLEASE STOP IT.

That last JS sounded very odd thinking people were eagerly waiting to see my photographs, and presuming that everyone would enjoy the photographs because they were so exciting. Can't you see that a meal in an airplane is not exciting, though it is intended to be funny. Anyone can see that JS is not real.

I can see why the last message made fun of the eager comment.
If people start thinking that I have that attitude it will not help with various plans I have.

Thank you Dan for getting the conversation going, though. I have found many of the comments (except that last one from JS, and the one
about buying books) very very funny.

I will indeed take many more photographs of all aspects of life.

To prove once and for all that this is me I have entered my email at Dans suggeston.
A
An idea for photos!
Dear JS, why not take photographs of your neighbors on the plane and other people you meet. That way it will clear up confusion among spammers, it will help us to see who you met and it will help you meet people.
So for the next album, can we have lots of photos of people you sit next to, meet on the bus, pass on the street and so forth.
I am a little shy to write my name, but you can always email me at my email address.
Yours,
A friend :)
