The candles have burned down

Nya Vinden sadly closed

As reported before Nya Vinden is closed this fall. Linus missed the place and went to take a look at it last Saturday night.

No music. No candles. No ice cream. No laughter. No live music. No girl sitting by a table while looking at a boy. No joy.

"The café didn't meet the founders ideology", Patrick Buss explained. "We wanted to see people's lives changed and now it was only like any café". "We had to take a break with it to pray and to think what step to take next", Patrick continued.

Linus had been serving in the café for many years. "Sue! Make it back in business", Linus cried.

YES, this is sad as such. On the other hand, if for once this would open up
for something new - and I personally mean very much replacing the ways of man
with the way of God - even if it would just be an updated vision of what the
café should be today, then the joy of hope makes it hard to remain in any
sadness regarding these matters.

And NO, it has nothing to do with apparent or outward results. At least that
is my personal perspective which I would hope holds for quite a few others as
well. Not only is it half evident by itself that we cannot underestimate what
might happen in the hidden, at the tables and in the hearts of people, but we
have also at times actually seen things great and small here and there to this
effect.

Aww... there is much that could be said here about reasons and so much more,
but let it suffice for now to point out first that this issue is more multi-
faceted than it seems. I understand very well this might for good reasons not
be obvious to all of even the most regular café visitors. It is not that we
close the café because we got bored or anything (this would be one wierd
contradiction indeed, as closing the café makes my saturdays more boring). For
one thing, Café Nya Vinden is not an entity standing by itself but needs to be
seen in a context, and by necessity much of this context is Andreaskyrkan.
There are things happening on many levels which I cannot dig into here. Much
could be said also about the history of CNV and how it has changed as well,
but let it be clear that I am most definitely NOT one of the founders, so I
will leave those issues for those who have been there from the start to
discuss. Remember, though, that CNV was born now over 15 years ago, who are we
to say that all visions are intended to give birth to projects supposed to
live unchanged forever???

There are a couple of practical aspects concerning the café only, which are
part of the puzzle, that I can share with you. I guess most of those who have
NOT been working at CNV cannot fathom what kind of resource commitment is
required as regards especially the number of people needed to keep it all
running. As of today we still do not have available the resources we would
have needed this autumn. We have a handful of people and could be able to keep
the doors open once a month, just as Christoffer pointed out. If we did, this
would, at most, be a transitional period until we receive the guidance we are
looking for, be it then go on, or to find a new way for the café or to close
permanently. And no, we don't need and do not have a comittee to reflect on
this once a month café.

What if we had the resources, if they'd, say, appeared out of thin air
tomorrow, or the stones of Högbergsgatan were converted to children of God
eager to serve in the Café in response to your prayers? I believe even then
we'd need a much clearer vision and sound reason to go about business as
usual, simply for the commitment to make sense. Well, yes, if literally the
stones of Högbergsgatan did rise up to serve in the Café I guess that counts
as guidance as long as they are children of God, too.

Now, there are at least two ways, as I see it, to interpret what has happened
with our resources: either this is just regular evil resistance against the
works of God, or even just regular circumstances playing around, and we should
be crying out for help to the Lord expecting Him to meet our needs. Or then
maybe He has removed part of our provisions so that we will turn and seek His
face instead of running around all by our own force in our old tracks. I would
opt for the latter. Consider also John 15:1-17, noting 15:2 especially. If
indeed CNV was carrying fruit, maybe it needs His pruning to be able to be
even more fruitful. I am not very familiar with growing vine, but those in the
know say that when you prune the vine, you cut the branches so much the
bush looks all dead. And yet in the harvest season it is full of lots and lots
of juicy grapes!
